Archive for April, 2010

I think as grown women (and men), it can often be difficult to come up with the perfect gift for Mother’s Day.  It used to be so cute to just paint a picture with our hand print on it and call it a day.  Once the novelty of that wears off and, well, your hand really isn’t changing in size anymore from one year to the next, we often ask, “What else is there?”  It seems that there are only so many macaroni necklaces a girl can ask for.  Now that this daughter has grown up, she took it to the next level and offered the idea of a photo session for just her and her mom.  This was a first for me and as fun as it was, I’m certainly hoping it’s not my last!

I don’t think it’s really any secret, but I LOVE laughing pictures.  I LOOOOOVE THEM!  I just always find that it seems to shoot right to the core and offers so much more than just a pretty picture.  A good laughing image gives back.  It’s with such elevated emotion that it puts a smile on others faces and is truly something joyful to reflect on…Life IS fun and SO worth capturing.

D & K, you certainly put a smile on MY face…thank you!  Hope you like your sneak peek…

To be expected, I had myself some laughs when I delivered this family’s order.  The little girlie in the house had to tell me all about their recent trip to the Donut Hole.  Care to know the highlight???  Well, it certainly wasn’t the donut or the glaze.  It was the “prinkles!”  (aka Sprinkles)  So, it had me thinking…isn’t it the “prinkles” that make us all happy?

Finally sharing a few more from their session…I can’t help but smile.

Okay, so it’s been a bit nutty already this week with session requests so this is my attempt to stay on top of what is available for 2010.  In my current state of mom-hood and the ages of my kiddos, I take a very limited number of sessions during the year.  I’m finding that this year is booking a bit quicker than last year.  It completely pains me to say that my spring and summer sessions have been reserved and I’m booking into the fall.  There is certainly always the possibility of a reschedule or a cancellation so please, if you had a session in mind, don’t hesitate to toss me a note to be put on a waiting list.  There were a couple instances last year where openings became available at the last minute.

Gosh, that sounds so “business-like.”  Eek!  To stray from that tone a bit, the reality is this.  “Sentimental” and “Sappy” go along with the territory of being a mom.  These words have a tendency to define me at times, which is exactly why I’ve found myself behind the camera.  This seems like such a big year for me with my little girl starting kindergarten (which is turning out to be harder than I thought it would be) in the fall and my little man discovering his way through toddlerhood.  There are so many moments that pass that certainly will not pass again so the best I can do is be there for them and savor them.  With that said, I am making every effort to just be there.  For them.  I can never get these days back so when the day is done, I want to be able to brush my hands together and say I did my best and I was the very best mom I could be because it is this role that is the premise of what defines who I am.  On the photography note, years ago, I had no idea I would feel so strongly and passionate about capturing moments to preserve them, remember them, and feel them again.  Photography has certainly embedded itself deep within me and has given me such purpose.  I long to capture these moments of my family as well as moments had by other families.  Makes my heart happy.  This is why I continue to do what I do…even if it is in a bit smaller doses for now.

Since, no post is a post without a pic, thought I would share this one from the archives since this little guy will be turning two soon…pure sweetness.

Awww, the good ol’ Easter bucket…certainly a trusted friend…serving multiple purposes.  Most importantly, it’s an extra 5 inches…

Without it, how else would one be able to dig for treasures in the junk drawer??

Ummm, bucket??   Help???

I follow various photographer blogs all over the country and I’m in a current state of extreme jealousy.  I’m quite positive that we are the only ones in the world still plagued by brown landscape.  I dream of a lush green field.  I’m nearly ready to roll out a big hunk of one of those indoor/outdoor green carpets from Lowe’s and call it good.

In the mean time, I figured I would share a few more from this session.  Sessions like these certainly remind me that maybe that green field can wait…I found something else to make me happy.  Take that.

Okay, these two deserve a bit of credit.  We had plans for an afternoon engagement session but the Al Roker in me checked the weather and noticed extreme winds slated for the PM.  I called them in the morning and offered the possibility of a morning session and we went for it.  The kicker – it was freezing!  AND it turned out to probably be the same weather all day!  As for my point???  Well, these two rocked their session even IF it was freezing and windy.

R & A, thanks for the fun morning – you guys did great!   I can’t wait to show the rest!
