OMG, I thought I dreamed that I took photos of my very good college friend and her family in the midst of barreling gusts of wind, surrounded by wildfire smoke, all the while trying to convince a two-year-old not to act two.  And then, I woke up and realized, “Oh no, I did!”

So, believe it or not, we managed to pull some positives out of this scary combination of factors…thought I would share this sneak peek…

(D&L, thanks for making the drive…it was so very fun to see you!  Your family is beautiful!!)

Yep, it’s true.  A year can go by right before your eyes.

So this little family has been with me from the very beginning…you may remember their little man.  This family has been so very supportive of this little photography endeavor that I’m on and I couldn’t be more grateful.  As for their little guy, well, he grew!  He grew to be (almost) ONE!  And ONE he is…he moves…fast.

Here’s a little glimpse at what the grand ol’ age of one looks like… (they’re super cute and sweet together!)

…no matter what.  Obviously, it’s what they’re supposed to do.  As one in this gender category, I can honestly say that I do, at times, feel bad for those of the male gender having to put up with all of our drama and our sassiness, craziness, grumpiness, sheer happiness, and the speed at which we change between these behaviors.  Ah, heck though, I think I actually feel more sorry for us having to do this!

This little family is a bit high in estrogen as Dad is outnumbered FOUR to ONE!  A couple observations based on this session:

1. Dad handles being outnumbered so very well and adores his girls.

2. Mom REALLY knows how to dress her girls for photos – I know who to call when I have questions…absolutely perfect!

Here’s a little sneak peek at yesterday’s session…

Girls?  Definitely.  Scared of small amphibians?  Not in the least.  HA!!

Oh, the sheer honesty of a child…you have to love it.  He looks to his mom and says “ooh, you have such smooth cheeks.”  I guess it could be worse as I’m often told that I looked up at my mom once and said “You have a mustache.”  I’m certain that will come back to haunt me…heck, it probably already has.  Earlier this year, as I was doing Little Miss’s hair, she said “Your nostrils look like spider webs.”  No, I don’t have a complex, don’t know what you’re talking about.

So, on to my post.  I had a lot of fun spending time last night with these critters and their parents.  Not to get all sappy but this past year, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to spend time with absolutely amazing families and dive briefly into their worlds some as we go through these sessions.  Throughout this process, I have been able to spend time with people who always end up being friends of mine.  This family is no exception.  It’s funny how when you meet someone, you have no idea what the future will bring.  That whole fate thing never ceases to amaze me.  Let me introduce you to the A Family.  I originally crossed paths with mom when Little Miss took music class from her.  I was not doing photography at that time and I may not have been even thinking about it.  So, I can’t help but smile as I had no idea then that we would be one day hanging around their yard taking pictures.

Here’s a little sneak peek at my evening through the lens.  Love their family dynamics!

Thanks A crew for showing me a great time!  Can’t wait to show you the rest of the goods.

So, I’m really having a hard time grasping at the fact that it is September already.  Fall it by far my favorite season but I have to tell you, I’m a bit bummed it’s here so quick.  It seems like it’s always a bit bittersweet because I’m crazy about this time of year but it goes as quick as it got here.  I mean seriously, what am I going to wear for Halloween??!!

As we’re entering that time of year, I felt compelled to throw out the key dates to remember for sessions and orders.

November 1, 2009 – last session date of the year to guarantee Christmas delivery

November 18, 2009 – last day to place an order to guarantee Christmas delivery

December 1, 2009 through January 1, 2009 – I’ll be extremely unavailable as I’ll be devoting this entire month to my very supportive family

SPECIAL OFFER:  Bonus 25 Folding 5×7 Custom Designed Christmas Cards with any order of Collection III or higher.

On to at least one photo…okay, so I always have my favorites from a session and the family always has their favorites.  Sometimes they’re the same but often times they’re different.  I couldn’t be happier to know that we shared this one…

to start thinking about what else?  CHRISTMAS CARDS!  In September?!  It’s never too early.  Just in case you didn’t know, the Hatten family is a Christmas card family…it truly has become tradition.  We love giving them and love receiving them and yes, we ALWAYS critique.  It’s possible, we’ll never admit it, but it’s possible that we’ve become what some refer to as Christmas Card Snobs.  I’m not going to lie to you, Mr. Hatten has actually made fun of cards he’s seen in the past.  Not me.  I’m not like that. ;)   Okay, come on, we’ve all seen them, you know the cards with the glittery poinsettias on the front that you nearly toss to the side but you feel compelled to see who sent it so you open it up to find nothing but the boring greeting on the inside followed by nothing but the names of those who sent it.  That’s it.  Just the names.  No salutation.  No “Merry Christmas.”  Nothing.  And where does this card go?  Hmmmm…  And do you ever remember you even received it?  Well, I suppose you do if you LOVE glittery poinsettias!  And we’ve all seen the good ol’ Christmas letter that is included in so many of the cards we each receive.  Don’t get me wrong…I do actually adore most of them (oh, and we admittedly prepare one ourselves); however, there are those 10-page works of art with in depth discussions of the dental cleanings of Aunt Bernie (she did have to get a bridge this year) and of the plumbing problems experienced at the Johnsons (that darn running toilet).

Oh yeah, my point…I just wanted to give a call-out to any of my past sessions and to my future sessions who may be interested in Christmas cards this year that it’s never too early.  The possibilities are endless as to what can be done.  Thought I would throw in a few examples…hope everyone is having a great week!
